Telegram Messaging App:

The government of Iran is set to ever ban the messaging application Telegram over national security concerns. And replace it with its own messaging application. Alaeddin Boroujerdi is a chairman of Iran’s Parliament National Security. Iranian press agency MNA said Alaeddin declared the block during a radio conversation. According to press agency, Alaeddin said the decision to ban Telegram was “made at the top levels of government”.

Alaeddin said during the conversation the government would publish its own messaging application later this month. “national security” as the reason the messaging service will no longer be available. Alaeddin also added that he expects Iranian made messaging applications like Soroush will replace Telegram when it is ban finally. Telegram is so famous in Iran, with about 40 million users currently using the application in the country alone.

Pavel Durov:

The application uses widely during the mass objection that took place the late previous year. At the time, the chief executive officer of Telegram, Pavel Durov said on Twitter that Iran was “ban access for the majority of Iranians”. After protesters used the famous messaging app to plan and publicise decision.

Blocking encrypted messaging applications like Telegram while enabling messaging applications passed by the government of Iran grows worried over the Iranian made applications. The Telegram has over two hundred million people worldwide, according to the company. The service, like to other famous messaging apps like WeChat, WhatsApp, and Signal, offers communication via photos, videos, text, and more.

Decrypt All Messages:

The application uses a property encryption technology, which has led specialists to ask questions about its security. The Telegram has been in a legal fight with the Russian intelligence service, FSB when it declined to hand over its encryption keys to the government. That means FSB could decrypt all messages by those keys sent using Telegram.

Last month, the company lost an appeal in court after the Russian government required the company hand over the keys. According to the Russian constitution, the court agreed with the FSB’s demand that the company could not keep the encryption key private. The Telegram has said it will continue to battle that judgment.
