Leeds dismiss manager Thomas

Leeds United have dismissed their head coach. Thomas Christiansen, following a dismal seven-match winless run.  The Championship club yet to win in 2018.

Leeds were hammered 4-1 at home to Cardiff City on Saturday. two weeks after losing to Millwall at Elland Road and almost a month on from their FA Cup exit at the hands of Newport County. The club is 10th in the league. Their last victory in all competitions on Boxing Day. An A 2-1 win at Burton Albion.

The 44-year-old Dane was appointed on a two-year contract in June.  after a promising start in which Leeds were top of the table in September. They have since fallen away from the top-six reckoning.


losing five of their last seven matches. Christiansen’s assistants, Julio Bañuelos and Paul Butler, have also left Leeds.

Chairman Andrea Radrizzani and the board of directors would like to thank Thomas and his staff for their hard work over the past eight months.

A club statement read: “Leeds United can confirm that head coach Thomas Christiansen has left the club.
Leeds have sacked their Danish manager Thomas Christiansen after only eight months.

The Yorkshire club is 10th in the Championship having failed to win since Boxing Day and lost on Saturday.

Christiansen, 44, who formerly managed Cypriot side APOEL. also saw his team beaten by League Two Newport County.

Leeds will now be looking for their seventh manager since 2014.

Saturday’s defeat at the hands of former manager Neil Warnock’s Cardiff was a third in the last four Championship matches for Leeds.

However, a run of four defeats in five in October checked their promotion charge and their current seven-game winless run sealed his fate.

Leeds issued a statement on Sunday which read: “Chairman Andrea Radrizzani and the board of directors would like to thank Thomas and his staff for their hard work over the past eight months.Christiansen recorded 13 wins from his 30 league games at Leeds.
